Nice-KitchenHome selling can sometimes feel like a difficult and expensive process. When people are looking to buy a home, one of the most important rooms that they will look at is the kitchen. Guess which room typically costs the most to remodel? The kitchen is typically also one of the most expensive rooms to remodel. Home owners can often spend anywhere between $50,000 to $150,000 remodeling outdated kitchens.

If you’re trying to sell your home, however, you don’t have to spend a fortune remodeling your kitchen. There are some proven staging techniques that can make a kitchen seem like a showcase, without costing you a small fortune.

The very first step in staging a kitchen for an open house or for selling the home, is making sure that kitchen is clean. You absolutely need to clean your kitchen until it is flawless. This includes scrubbing the baseboards and vaccuuming corners of the kitchen. You should also polish any fixtures, dust any ceiling fans or other areas, and replace any burnt out light bulbs. It’s important that the kitchen be completely spic and span.

Many homeowners dine out during the home selling process in order to avoid having strong food odors in the home while people are coming in and out, touring the house.

If you have a dishwasher, make sure it is always completely clean and cleared of any dishwashers. Home buyers will generally open a dishwasher and peek inside, and you don’t want them eyeballing your dirty dishes. The same thing goes for your sink: make sure you remove all dishes from the sink and put them away, neatly.

A good way to make home buyers think that you are meticulous about your home is by organizing your spice rack. If you put it in alphabetical order and have all the labels facing outwards in the same direction, buyers can make the assumption that you are neat and orderly about the rest of your home. This works both ways, however. If your shelves and cupboards are messy, they will assume you do not take care of your home.

Your counter should be clear of all items and appliances. The only thing you can leave is a bowl of fruit or a decorative item, or possibly a cookbook.
